1921 to 2016

Matelda Torres, 94 of Denver, passed away at the Miller Memorial Care Center Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016.

Memorial services and inurnment were held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, in the Olinger-Highland Mortuary, 10201 North Grant Street, Thornton, CO 80229-2021. Local condolences may be dropped off at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel. It was mom's wish that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Matelda's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Matelda Larez Torres, the daughter of Gabino and Flora (Calichi) Larez was born on Aug. 4, 1921, at Carlsbad, N.M. On Feb. 14, 1946, she was united in marriage to Lupe M. Torres at Big Spring, TX. During WWII, she was a member of the "Rosie the Riveter" group of young women that filled in while their men went to defend our freedoms. Never complaining and always ready to roll up her sleeves to help in providing for her family. Matelda will be remembered by her sons as a dedicated wife and mother. Always quick to laugh or cry for joy or sorrow. She will be sorely missed by all.

Survivors include: (3) sons: Lupe Torres Jr. and wife Sherry of Sidney, Sal Torres and wife Judy of San Antonio, TX and James Torres of Denver, Colo .; daughter-in-law: Deb Torres of

San Antonio, TX; (3) sisters: Rachel L. Ceniceros of Dallas, TX, Maria L. Uribe of San Antonio, TX and Tonia L. Carrasco of El Paso, TX; (5) grandchildren; (10) great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members.

Matelda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, (1) son: John Larez Torres, (3) brothers: Alfredo, Ray Larez, and Louis Larez and (1) sister: Petra Larez Fernandez.
