1922 to 2016

Evelyn Travis, 93 of Cheyenne, Wyo. and a longtime Sidney resident, died Friday morning, Feb. 19, 2016, at Life Care of Cheyenne.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, in the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sidney with the Rev. Tom Waddell officiating. Burial will follow in the Dix Cemetery south of Dix.

In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church or the Dix Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.

Evelyn Rose Travis was born June 15, 1922, in Dix, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Peterson) Campbell. She grew up and received her education in Dix. After graduation she move to Cheyenne to live with her aunt and uncle Manning and worked at the Pullman Railroad Car Company, later attending cosmetology school where she became a licensed beautician.

On Feb. 14, 1944 she married Edward Travis in Smith Center, Kan. while he was on leave from the U.S. Army. Following his discharge from the Army the couple moved to Dix and then to Sidney where they made their home. Evelyn worked as a beautician, beauty instructor and owned her own salon and later worked as a dental assistant for John Platz, DDS.

Following her retirement she enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, playing in numerous bridge clubs, and bingo. She was a longtime member of the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her sister, Maurine Lockwood of Kimball; two sons: Larry and Dana Travis of Olatha, Kan. and Doyle and Willa Travis of Cheyenne; three grandsons: T.J., Chad and Jaran Travis; five great-granddaughters: Madeline, Olivia, Laila, Piper and Shiloh; and two great-grandsons: Kieran and Kobe.

Her parents; two brothers: Melvin and Jim; and two sisters: Helen and Donna preceded her in death.

Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Sidney is serving the Travis family.
