1939 to 2016

Elroy "Roy" J. Fischer, a long time resident of Chappell, was called to heaven on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, at the Sidney Regional Medical Center.

Viewing will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chappell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 25, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chappell with Father Matthew Koperski officiating. Interment will follow at the Chappell Cemetery with Military Honors.

Elroy "Roy" J. Fischer was born on July 13, 1939 in Eagle Butte, S.D. to Pius and Jenny Fischer. Roy was the oldest of five children and a wonderful big brother to all of his siblings: Ron, Nancy, Rosemary and Joann. As a young man, Roy served his country in the United States Navy. He married the love of his life, Wanda McAdams on Oct. 6, 1962. To this union three children were born: Desira, Steven and Christina.

Roy was in the auto body business for most of his adult life. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed many hobbies in his younger years including hunting, archery and motorcycles. The most important thing to Roy was his family. He was a wonderful father to his children and a loving grandpa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a fun uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He was an amazing man and friend with a huge heart and a big smile.

Roy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wanda Fischer of Chappell; 3 children: daughter, Desira (Steve) Martin of Scottsbluff; son, Steven (Corinne) Fischer; daughter, Christina (Dan) Riley, both of Chappell; siblings: brother, Ron (Lori) Fischer; sister, Nancy (Ted) Waugh; sister, Joann McDaniels; 6 grandchildren: Heather Fischer, Christopher Porter, Jordan Fischer, Hailey Himes, Wyatt Riley and Jamie Subjeck; 3 great-grandchildren: Olivia Fischer, Ashlyn Subjeck and Ayden Subjeck. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pius and Jenny Fischer and his sister, Rosemary Farel.
