Janice E. Crabb

1937 to 2016

Janice E. Crabb, 79, a former longtime Sidney resident, passed away at Medford, Ore., on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney with Father Jim Heithoff officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

There will be no Wake or Rosary Services. Friends were invited to stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Tuesday to sign Janice’s register book and leave condolences for the family.

Memorials to the Arthritis Foundation, Nebraska Chapter or St Patrick’s Church. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Janice’s care and funeral arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Christine and Charles Aden, Medford Ore. and Barbara Crabb, Sidney. Four grandsons, Jay (Jessica) Aden, Terre Haute, Ind., Joshua Ward, Sidney, Riley (Lori) Aden, Somerset, Ky. and Jordan Ward, Lincoln. One brother, Patrick Farnsworth and one sister, Joy Hoerler. Several nieces and nephews.

Janice Ellen Farnsworth Crabb was born on Jan. 4, 1937 at the family farm in Carroll, Wayne County. She was the second child, oldest daughter of Harvey W. and Bernadette (Shannon) Farnsworth. Janice moved to Sidney with her family in 1942 when her father came to work on the Union Pacific Railroad. She attended kindergarten at North Elementary and then attended and graduated from St. Patrick’s Academy in 1955.

Janice lived in San Diego, Calif. for four years and then returned to Nebraska in 1960, returning to Sidney in 1969. She served as secretary for St. Patrick’s Church from 1974-1981.

Janice was a member of the Alter Society and Catholic Daughters. She moved to Florida to live with her daughter, Christine, in 2002. She then moved to Kentucky in 2010 and most recently moved to Medford, Ore. in 2015. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Donald Farnsworth.
