Clarence Ronald Surber

1933 to 2016

Clarence R. Surber, 82, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Golden Living Center, Lakeview, in Grand Island. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Sidney Cemetery. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Clarence was born March 9, 1933, in Frontier County. He was the son of Jasper and Leota (Messersmith) Surber.

Survivors of the immediate family include his sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald Surber of Sidney, Larry and Cathy Surber of Gurley; One sister and brother-in-law, Ila and Gary Buker of Panora, IA. Others left to cherish is memory include his two grandchildren.

After graduating from high school Clarence owned and operated several service stations. He drove truck hauling for Phillips Petroleum, and was a freight and fertilizer hauler. He married Darlene Weiss and later married Nancy Johnson. He moved to Grand Island in 1975, where he partnered in building the Day’s Inn on 281.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Terry Surber and brother, Clare Surber.
