Public hearing for street improvement plan set for city council meeting

A public hearing and presentation regarding the 2016 one-year and six-year street improvement plan will be held during Tuesday's regular meeting of the Sidney City Council.

The meeting begins at 7:15 p.m. at city hall, located at 1115 13th Avenue.

According to state statute 39-2115, each municipality "shall develop and file with the Board of Public Roads Classifications and Standards a long-range, six-year plan of street improvements based on priority of needs and calculated to contribute to the orderly development of an integrated statewide system of highways, roads and streets."

This year will include a list of 12 projects based on priority including work on Pole Creek Crossing, the Fort Sidney Road Bridge, Jennifer Lane, an extension of Gregory Drive, Anna Drive, Outfitter Way, two on Chase Boulevard, 13th Avenue, Hwy. 30 on Illinois Avenue, Enterprise Avenue and Commerce Court.

At the conclusion of the public hearing, the council will consider approval of the street improvement plan.

The council will also consider a request from Sidney Regional Medical Center for increased speed limits on Greenwood Road and Pole Creek Crossing, as well as resolutions for the aquatic center regarding fees for the 2016 season and payments to Saunders Construction.

Galen Wittrock of the South Platte Natural Resources District is scheduled to follow with a presentation regarding the east versus the west Sidney watershed routes, with action from the city council to follow if applicable.

Other items on Tuesday's agenda include a second reading of ordinance 1775 regarding electrical rates with possible action and a February 2016 claim for Hillside Ventures and others.
