2 Sidney students participate in regional science fair

About 30 students from five different schools in the Panhandle, including two from Sidney, participated in the Nebraska Junior Academy of Sciences (NJAS) Regional Science Fair on March 2 at the Harms Advanced Technology Center at WNCC in Scottsbluff. The NJAS partnered with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) for this event.

There were three regional winners of the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Science Fair were first place winner Kara Barnhart of Garden County, second place winner Alexah Fort of Sidney and third place winner Benjamin Bashtovoi of Sidney. These three will be entered with other AHEC winners from around the state and be notified in April if they will be continuing on to the state fair in Omaha this June.

Fort and Bashtovoi are students at Sidney Middle School. Their science teacher is Merry Westman.

The students were also judged by Nebraska Junior Academy of Science judges and the top five winners will advance to the state finals on April 21 at the Strategic Air and Space Museum in Ashland. Fort received fourth place in the NJAS portion of the judging and will advance to the state finals to represent Sidney Middle School at the event.
