Greg McDaniel and Mitch Brown made it look easy in the first weekend of the Kimball Hospital Foundation 9-pin no-tap bowling tournament.
The two Kimball men each scored multiple 300 games Friday and Saturday and will have a share of $1,000 in prize money from the first weekend of the tournament. McDaniel, the talented new owner of the Kim Bowl, rolled 300 games in five of six attempts. He scored a perfect 300-300-300 in the men’s league division and a near-perfect 300-287-300 in doubles play.
Brown scored 236-300-300 in doubles play, joining Kelly Garrett, Sonny Porter and Austin Pile, all of Kimball, and James Jacob of Burns with 300 games after one weekend. The $1,000 perfect game prize fund, sponsored by Regional West Health Services, will be shared by all bowlers who score 300 games over the two-weekend tournament.
In addition to the perfect game prize fund, bowlers can win cash prizes in each division on a 1 of 6 ratio. The tournament resumes this Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1, 3:30 and 6 p.m.
In the 9-pin no-tap format, any bowler who knocks down 9 or more pins on his or her first ball is awarded a strike. No-tap bowling is often used to help less talented individuals bowl with more talented bowlers on a level playing field.
“We had a fun first weekend and hope to see more folks join us next weekend,” said Kerry Ferguson, director of the Kimball Hospital Foundation. “People really like the 9-pin no-tap format and it’s open to league and non-league bowlers of all ages and abilities.”
Tournament proceeds will help the Foundation purchase new bariatric bathing spa for patients at Kimball Health Services, Ferguson said.
After one weekend, McDaniel and Garrett stand atop the adult league doubles division with a handicap series of 1708, followed by Jacob and Bruce Wilson of Cheyenne with 1631 and Lynn and Teresa Anthony of Kimball with 1610.
McDaniel leads the men’s league singles with a 900 series, followed by Jacob with 891 and Clay Keane of Sidney with 854. In women’s league singles, LaDonna Welton of Sidney leads with a 700 series, followed by Jennifer Gilming of Kimball with 693 and Elise Rezac of Sidney with 679.
Slots remain available to join the tournament this Friday night and Saturday by calling the bowling alley at (308) 235-4301. All entries thus far have been league bowlers, leaving plenty of opportunities for non-league bowlers to win cash prizes, Ferguson said.
The entry fee is $20 per event.
