1935 to 2016

Gerald Castle, 80 of Peetz, Colo., died Sunday evening, March 27, 2016, at his home in Peetz.

Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 1, 2016, in the Peetz United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at Peetz.

A memorial has been established in his name to the Peetz Plateau School for academic and athletic scholarships.

Gerald William Castle, the son of Lee Howard and Elois (Listenberger) Castle was born Dec. 5, 1935 at Freeport, Ill. He grew up in Freeport with seven brothers and two sisters. He worked all through school helping the janitors and setting pins at the bowling alley five days a week for five hours.

He entered the U.S. Air Force and served as an aircraft mechanic during the Korean War. In 1965 he was united in marriage to Dola Nadine Hahn. They lived in Sterling and Peetz together until Nadine preceded him in death in April of 2004 after 39 years of team work and happy times. Jerry lived lonely until Aug. 8, 2008 when he married Patsy Wenneker and built a lovely home and friends together. He worked at various jobs doing construction work building homes and doing maintenance work for the RE 1 school district. Jerry has many tributes to his talent and hard work in the area with homes, cabinetry, and fix-it-jobs. He always was there to lend a helping hand and words of encouragement.

Survivors include his wife Patsy of Peetz, Colo .; sister Katherine Eggemier of Freeport, Ill .; step-sons: David Leis of Sterling, Colo., Gary Lacher of Windsor, Colo. and Eric Menneker of Peetz, Colo .; step-grandchildren Wolfgang Wenneker and Helmuth Wenneker both of Peetz, Colo. and Billie Jean Archuleta of Oroville, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nadine, 7 brothers: Charles, James, Robert, Paul, Delmer, Harold and Kenneth George and 1 sister Evelyn DeJarnette.
