Charles Eugene Nelson

1944 to 2016

Charles Eugene Nelson, 71 of Omaha, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Charlie was born in North Platte on Dec. 2, 1944, to Oscar and Mildred (Lehl) Nelson.

Charlie attended school in Ogallala and graduated with the class of 1963. He furthered his education at McCook Community College where he played basketball. He received his degree in education at Kearney State College and then pursued his master’s degree at Northern Colorado College in Greeley, Colo.

On Aug. 21, 1965, Charlie was united in marriage to Bonnie Huckfeldt at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. The couple lived in McCook, Kearney, Imperial, Ogallala, Greeley, Colo., Norton, Kan., Abilene, Kan., Sidney, Atlantic, Iowa and then in Omaha.

Charlie enjoyed working with the young adults, coaching, refereeing basketball and football, hunting and manicuring his lawn. He especially enjoyed his granddaughter, Taylee Rae.

He is preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Marvin and Melba Huckfeldt and brothers-in-law, Ron Penner and Ervin Kelly. Charlie is survived by his wife of 50 years Bonnie, daughter, Tausha Warrington (Brion), granddaughter, Taylee Rae both of Omaha, sister, Claudette Kelly of Kearney, sister-in-law, Pat Penner of McCook, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

At Charlie’s request he has been cremated and a private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
