Creek Valley students attend Math and Science Day in Sterling

On Tuesday, March 29, twenty-two students from Creek Valley Middle School attended the annual Northeastern Junior College Math and Science Day in Sterling, Colo.

The day consists of an academic competition in which the students each take two tests in either math, science or critical thinking. They compete against students from at least 20 other schools from Colorado and Nebraska.

Students test scores are compared to the scores of other students in their grade and awards are given to the top three places in each. Creek Valley had two students receive awards, with Ashleigh Jay placing first in Critical Thinking and second in 7th grade math, and Mariah Koenen with a third place finish in 7th grade science.

Students attending included 6th graders Lucas Trujillo, Shayley Nordyke, Allyson Jay, Grace Timm, Chance Spiers and Grace Michelman.

Seventh graders competing were Justin Ningen, Jersie Misegadis, Mariah Koenen, Rhett Dykestra, Ashleigh Jay, Kendall Soucie and Miquala Purscell.

The 8th grade group consisted of Catie Koenen, Karl Motzkus, Caitlyn Mueller, Jadyn Gerold, Kayla Collins, Adriana Priest, Noah Knapp, Chloe Stupka and Patrick Hansen.

Jessica Cabela and Cory Michelman were the sponsors.
