Parenting the love and logic way

Coming to the Sidney area, April through May, is the time tested, practical and positive Love & Logic Parenting Series. The seminar series is a collaborative effort of the Adventist Learning Center of Sidney and the local Love & Logic facilitator, Jennifer Fleharty. Parents, teachers, grandparents, or family care providers can take advantage of this seminar and learn how to parent the love and logic way.

The “Love” in Love and Logic means that we love our kids so much that we are willing to set and enforce limits. This “Love” also means that we do so with sincere compassion and empathy. The “Logic” in Love and Logic happens when we allow our children to make decisions, make affordable mistakes and experience the natural or logical consequences.

When we balance this with sincere empathy, our children develop the attitude that the quality of my life depends on the quality of my choices. With the loving yet powerful techniques and tools of the Love and Logic program, parents can help their children learn how to make good choices and experience happy lives while maintaining love and respect for others.

It has been said that never before in history have parents faced so many challenges in raising happy and well behaved kids. That’s why the Love and Logic approach provides a variety of simple tools and effective strategies for parenting children from birth to adulthood.

This seminar series specializes in solutions to challenges that range from toddler tantrums to teen driving, from potty training to problems with Facebook postings or social media, from refusing to eat those vegetables, or refusing to do anything, and many other special needs and issues.

As a seminar parent or participant, you will develop immediate practical skills in how to avoid those un-winnable power struggles and arguments that cause so much chaos in the family; or learn how to stay calm when the kids do those incredibly upsetting things; or helping children learn from their mistakes rather than repeating them.

The six-session Love and Logic Parenting seminar will run from April 11 through May 16, every Monday evening, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Sidney Community Center. Workbooks and all participation materials will be provided, along with media presentations and group activities.

A free introduction class and registration is scheduled for Monday, April 4, 6:30 p.m., at the Community Center in Sidney.

The total cost for all six sessions is $25.00 per person or $ 35.00 per couple. For early registration or more information, you can contact the local Love and Logic facilitator, Jennifer Fleharty, at (308) 249-5332, or Pastor Jim Nichols of the Sidney Adventist Church, at (308) 254-6135.
