Three selected from Gurley for Cornhusker Girls' State

Three Gurley girls will represent Weyerts American Legion Auxiliary at Cornhusker Girls’ State in Lincoln this June. All are juniors at Leyton High School.

Hope Dykman, daughter of Wayne and Kim Dykman participates in volleyball and track, is National Honor society Treasurer and a member of Student Council, Future Farmers of America, and Letterman Club. Hope is also a member of Dryland Toughies 4-H Club and Salem Lutheran Church where she is Lutheran Youth Group Vice President. She has volunteered with Friends of the Sidney Public Library, at Sidney’s Golden Living Center and works summer wheat harvest at Crossroad Coop’s Gurley elevator. Hope enjoys horseback riding, sports, deer hunting, camping, shooting, boating, tubing, helping out on her brother’s and sister’s farms, riding ATVs and dirt bikes, and especially spending time with her family and friends. Following graduation from Leyton, Hope is considering attending the University of Wyoming.

Abbegail Draper is on the Alpha Honor roll and a member of National Honor Society. She is a member of the Leyton Band, Lady Warrior Volleyball, Lady Warrior Basketball and Girls’ Track teams. Abbe attended the State speech competition this past March. She is a member of the Letterman’s Club. In past years, she has attended the Chadron Scholastics Competition. Outside of school, she serves as the president in the parish youth group.

Brianne Sage is on the Alpha Honor Roll, a member of National Honor Society and member of Stuco. She has participated in Scholastic Competition at North Platte and Chadron. Bri is a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church and helps with Vacation Bible School. She is a member of the Weyerts American Legion Auxiliary in Gurley and the Camp Clark Raiders Gun Club at Bridgeport. Bri enjoys art especially drawing, target shooting, and is the winner of the Jr. Division at Quigley Buffalo BPCR Match at Forsythe, Montana last summer. She also enjoys hunting time with family and friends. Brianne is currently employed by Applebee’s in Sidney.
