Raiders finish strong at state track meet

Sidney's Jacob Hereen heaves the shot just a quarter inch shy of 55 feet to take fourth place at the State Class B Track Meet in Omaha.

OMAHA - Sidney High School track teams brought home 25 medals between the boys and girls, while eclipsing one more school record on the way.

In the boys 4x400 relay, the team of Michael Banaszak, Derek Robb, Christian Balandran, and Alex Linneman took the gold medal and set the new school record in what coach John Ganser said was probably the closest race of the weekend.

Linneman out-leaned Elkhorn's anchor Philip Elliott for the photo-finish win where unofficial scoring showed both teams with 3:24 on the clock.

Officially, Sidney finished with a 3:24.26 to Elkhorn's 3:24.75.
