String of burglaries under SPD investigation

A string of recent burglaries in Sidney are currently under investigation by the Sidney Police Department.

According to Police Chief Joe Aikens, the first burglary happened on April 21, at Triple O's Building Supply, located at 633 10th Avenue. The window glass had been broken to access entry, and some Dewalt power tools were reported missing. A portion of the property has since been recovered.

Power tools were also stolen from a garage at the 1300 block of summit drive, on April 26, 2016, along with a golf cart that was later recovered.

Another burglary occurred on May 5, when the front window of Budget Tapes and CD's was reported to be kicked in and various stereo equipment missing from the store.

The most recent burglary was reported on May 12, when a storage building on Hickory Street was broken into.

“It looked like the door had been pried open,” Sidney Police Chief Joe Aikens said. “We were not able to determine if anything was missing from the building.”

The investigations are currently active and the police department is running down leads, Aikens said.

Aikens encourages the community to report any suspected burglary no matter the size. “The littlest theft report could help us track criminal activity”, he said.

The community should be vigilant in keeping track in identifying their property, such as with serial numbers.

“Its always harder to track stolen items, if they don't have serial numbers.” Akiens said.

Any suspicious activity or suspected theft can be reported to the Sidney Sidney Police Department at 308-254-5515, or for an emergency, dial 911.
