A Night of Hope Walk for Cancer...helping cancer patients in need

Cancer is a terrible disease. It attacks the body with a vengeance. The disease doesn’t show favoritism. It strikes the young and the old equally and doesn’t care if you are weak or strong, rich or poor. Cancer shows no mercy.

For the cancer patient, they face strong treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation and sometimes both. No matter how strong and determined they are to keep life going as usual, things change.

With these changes, time is missed from work, but the expenses of day to day living keep rolling in.

That’s where Night of Hope Walk for Cancer Foundation can step in and help. The purpose of Night of Hope is to offer financial assistance to the cancer patients in Sidney and surrounding areas.

When asked about Night of Hope, here are some frequently asked questions.

Q: Who qualifies for assistance from Night of Hope?

A: Anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing active treatment qualifies for assistance.

Q: Does treatment have to be administered only at a Sidney facility to qualify?

A: NO! The patient can be receiving treatments at any medical facility. We understand that not all patients can be treated here and must travel to receive the right level of care for their type of cancer.

Q: What expenses are able to be turned in for financial assistance?

A: Types of reimbursements include medical bills, medications, utilities, phone bills, travel expenses and groceries. A maximum dollar amount limit is set for each patient, per year. Exceptions to this rule are handled on a case by case basis. Should the patient go into remissio but the cancer returns and treatment begins, they can ask for assistance from Night of Hope again.

Cancer patients or a family member can pick up an application at the Dorwart Cancer Center located at 830 Pine Street in Sidney. All information is kept confidential and funds are distributed by the Night of Hope social worker. If you know of a cancer patient who could use some help, tell them about Night of Hope. The Foundation was formed in 2002 to help cancer patients who need help along their journey as they battle this disease.

The annual Night of Hope Walk for Cancer will be held this year August 12. For more information, contact Brenda Noel @ 254-7308 or the Dorwart Cancer Center at 254-9192.
