Ann M. O'Connell - Obituary

Ann M. O'Connell, 95 of Sidney, passed away at the Golden Living Center in Sidney, Wednesday, August 17, 2016.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 20th with Rosary Services at 7 p.m., Friday, August 19th. Both services will be in the St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Jim Heithoff officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. with family present from 3 to 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Ann's name to the church. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Ann's care and funeral arrangements.

Ann Madeline O'Connell, the youngest of eleven children born to Charles Joseph and Theresia (Zurn) Welling, was born on May 3, 1921 at Crawford, NE. She attended the Crawford Schools and graduated from Crawford High School. On September 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Michael James O'Connell at St. John's Catholic Church in Crawford. To this union, two daughters were born, Pat and Jean. They moved to Sidney in 1952. Ann had a lifelong love of swimming and sewing, especially quilting, embroidery and crochet. She worked at Barker's Cleaners for twenty-six years. Ann was an active member of St. Patrick's, where she enjoyed working at the Rummage House, fixing, cleaning and dressing the dolls for resale. She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Ann was an avid card player being an active member of several bridge clubs in Sidney and Dalton and enjoyed casino trips with good friends.

Survivors include her daughters: Patricia Ann Myers of Dalton and Carolyn Jean Holly and husband Ronald of Sidney; (8) grandchildren, (31) great-grandchildren and (5) great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, all of her siblings and (1) great-grandson.
