Karl Elmshaeuser discusses key issues

Karl Elmshaeuser spoke about key issues in Nebraska with Sloan Estates residents late last week. Elmshaeuser is running for Nebraska's Legislature in District 47 in the upcoming November elections.

Elmshaeuser attended Northeast high school in Lincoln Nebraska. He went on to earn his associate's degree in Administration of Justice and a bachelor's degree in general studies. Elmhaeuser spent six years in the United States Marine Corps as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician.

He is currently living in Ogallala, serving as the executive director for the West Central Nebraska Development District, which helps lead 18 counties, and 58 communities with state and federal grant programs for public infrastructure and economic development. Elmshaeuser is currently serving as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Nebraska Regional Officials Council and he serves on the Ogallala City Council.

In the past Elmshaeuser also served two terms on the Nebraska Rural Development Commission. He was a charter member and chairman of the Ogallala Community Redevelopment Authority, served on a state Planning Advisory Committee to establish an Aviation System Plan for the state, and he was a charter member on the board of directors of the Keith County Area Development.

One of Elmshaeuser's passions is aviation. For over 12 years, Elmshaeuser gained experience in entrepreneurship when he created and operated an aviation company in Ogallala. Under his management the airport was recognized twice as the airport of the year and once as the project of the year by the Nebraska Department of Aeronautics.

Key topics for Elmshaeuser's campaign include fair funding for education, tax relief for families, farms and businesses and transportation and telecommunication.

Elmshaeuser says that he will ensure funding is equal across the districts for education. This will make certain each child will be receiving the best possible education.

One major concern among Sloan Estate's residents were property taxes being so high. Residents said it is hard for those who still own their own property to continue to live their current lifestyle. Elmshaeuser says he understands taxes are too high; especially property taxes and will work on lowering those taxes.

Transportation and telecommunication are also important to Elmshaeuser's campaign. He believes that Nebraska needs to continue to figure out ways to be more connected to others and each other. An example of this would be getting medical records connected to each hospital so they can access them to better treat patients in a timely manner.

Other topics discussed included Elmshaeuser supporting pro-life movement, strong supporter of second amendment rights and he is supporter of the death penalty.
