City Council approves mil levy

After refiguring the 2017 Cityof Sidney budget, the mil levy will remain at .43%, the same percentage as the 2016 mill-levy. To help make this happen some of the equipment reserve was trimmed. The proposed park study and some roadwork was also cut out of the upcoming budget to help lower the mill-levy.

The Communication Center presented its budget for the new fiscal year. The Center has requested a budget of $400,000 to come from the City, up from last year’s budget of $277,000. The increase in funding is mainly due to the Center hoping to add another position to become fully staffed. The City Council is contracted to provide 65 percent of the Communication Center budget.

The Council ultimately voted to approve the City covering 65 percent that it is contracted up to $400.000. Once the $400,000 is spent it will be the Authority Board’s responsibility to cover the rest of the expenses.

City Council members requested that the contract between the City and Communication Center be updated.
