Three Lady Raiders medal

CHADRON -- Sidney’s girls golfers continued their busy competition schedule Tuesday, coming back from the Labor Day holiday break with their best medalist finish of the season.

Three Lady Raiders broke into the top 10 at the Chadron Invitational, with Emma Alexander, Jordan Cook and Paige Langley medaling. Alexander shot a 93 to finish in sixth place, just four strokes ahead of Cook, who was seventh. Langley shot a 98 and earned 10th.

As a team, Sidney finished in third behind Scottsbluff and Gering. The Lady Raiders posted a 391 team total, just two strokes behind Gering. Scottsbluff had a team 358.

With the finish, Sidney Coach Chuck Christiansen wasn’t displeased with his team’s performance, he’s just waiting for the Lady Raiders to reach their potential.

“They’re not playing as good as they’re capable of playing,” Christiansen said. “But that will come. Hopefully we’ll be there by District.”

Christiansen said while the scores may not show it, he feels his team is improving each outing, and thinks in the next few weeks the small improvements will come together.

“Walking around and watching them play, I see improvement,” Christiansen said. “Their ball striking is getting better, especially around the greens.”

Christiansen said a couple of mistakes here and there are all that’s keeping some of the girls from breaking out so far.

“Tiara Ginther shot a 49-53, she just had two bad holes,” Christiansen said. “She hit the water on the same hole twice, and if it wasn’t for that, she could have medaled.”

Sidney slows down its pace a little, with its next varsity outing Tuesday at the Gering Invite. The junior varsity is in Mitchell today.
