Registration open for Oktoberfest run

Sidney Regional Medical Center (SRMC) is taking registration for it’s Oktoberfest 5/10K that is part the 2016 Oktoberfest festivities that begin next week.

Runners have participated in the Oktoberfest 5K for the past few years. However, this year participants will run a new course.

“We changed up the course this year to further integrate the race into the Oktoberfest celebration,” said Randi Norton, marketing and public relations for SRMC. “As always, the race will start at the Cheyenne County Community Center. This year the race will end at the Oktoberfest tent at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds. Much of the race will use the Deadwood Trail with only a few small sections on gravel.”

Norton said buses will be available to shuttle runners from the finish line to the starting line prior to the race. Buses will leave the fairgrounds at 6:30 a.m, 6:45 and 7 a.m.

“We encourage all runners to park at the fairgrounds and use the shuttle service. The shuttles will only run before the race starts. Any participants who park at the community center will need to find their own way back to their vehicles,” Norton said.

Bag-drop is another new service we’re offering this year, Norton said, participants can leave all their gear in a bag at the starting line and it will be ready for them to pick up at the finish line.

Bag drop-off will be provided at the community center and bags will be delivered to the Oktoberfest tent for pick-up after the race. Runners are strongly encouraged to use the zippered goodie bag and luggage tag provided for the bag drop.

There will be one water station along the 5K route and two water stations along the 10K route along with water and Gatorade at the beginning and end of the race.

Norton said the race has been part of the Oktoberfest events for several years. Last year SRMC co-sponsored the race with Points West Bank.

“SRMC has taken on the race this year to continue providing a fun way for members of our community to get active and participate in Oktoberfest,” Norton said.

Also new this year, participants are encouraged to wear costumes for the run.

“This is the first year a prize for best costume will be given. There will also be prizes for the overall male and female finishers as well as age group winners,” Norton said.

Participants who register before Sept. 25 will receive a long sleeve tech shirt and may register for $30. For those who register after Sept. 25 registration is $35 and a shirt is not guaranteed Norton said.

Registration costs include, long sleeve tech shirt, Oktoberfest lanyard and pretzel, bib number, post-race snacks (bagels, fruit, chocolate milk, trail mix) , beer token (over 21) or free shaved ice token (for runners under 21).

Register online at http://www.getmeregistered.com or by filling out a registration brochure located at the community center and at SRMC’s Rehab.
