New phone scam targets Sidney residents

Local Sidney banks have reported a new scam hitting Sidney residents through text messages. There have also been some reports of cell phone numbers and landlines receiving rude voicemails from the same number.

First reports of the scam seemed to be mainly targeting Verizon customers. However, newer reports have come from almost every phone carrier in Sidney.

The text message reported as a scam reads “(UrgentNotice) FirstB/ank/ofOmaha=Giveus.a ring@>7325922066’).” After the call is returned to the number provided, the customer is asked for their social security number, bank account number, routing number and other personal banking information.

Do not give this number or any number you are not familiar with your personal information.

Local banks have asked if you receive a text message, phone call or voicemail similar to the one reported, block the number and contact your bank, phone carrier and/or local authorities.
