Election time is upon us

Election time is upon us. Wednesday night, the nation watched the last presidential debate for the 2016 elections. With early elections already underway, here is some voter information that may come in handy.

Cheyenne County Clerk Beth Fiegenschuh said voters may early vote in the Clerk’s office until November 7 at 5 p.m. To do so, a voter or agent may pick up a ballot at the clerk’s office. Ballots can be delivered or mailed back to the Clerk’s office, but it must be received in the office by 7 p.m., on Election Day, Nov. 8.

“In order to early vote, we will need a signed application.” Fiegenschuh said. “A voter may get an application in the Clerk’s office, on the County website http://www.cheyennecountyne.net, Secretary of State website http://www.sos.ne.gov or it was published in the Sidney Sun Telegraph.”

Fiegenschuh gives a few dates for voters to keep in mind:

October 21 – postmark deadline for mailed-in registrations

October 28 – Last day for write-in candidates to file notarized affidavit and filing fee with the filing officer

October 28 – Last day for in-person voter registration. Clerk’s office will be open until 6:00 P.M.

October 28 – Last day to receive an application for Early Voting ballots to be mailed to a specific address

November 7 – Last day for in-person Early Voting at the County Clerk’s office

November 8 – Election day.

The polls will be open on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Polling sites for Cheyenne County are:

Sidney Precincts 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 – Exhibit Building at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds

Gurley – Gurley Fire Hall

Dalton – Dalton Fire Hall

Lodgepole – Lodgepole Fire Hall

Potter – Potter Fire Hall
