Lady Raiders power past Gering in straight sets

Sidney's Lady Raiders used powerful front line play to take control of the visiting Gering Bulldogs Tuesday, capturing a straight set win.

Sidney scored the first point and never let Gering get into a rhythm, blocking a host of shots at the net, and successfully scooping up offerings for return on the way to a 25-12, 25-10, 25-12 result.

In its own offensive attack, Sidney got kills from seven players, five with more than five each, to hit Gering from all angles. Kelsey Knight led the Lady Raiders with nine kills, while Maddi Porter added eight and Mattie Johnson seven. Annalise Lecher and Payton Jung had five each.

That balanced attack has been something the Lady Raiders have worked on for the past few weeks, a positive thing in Coach Sarah Wilson's book.

"We like the fact that we have several strong contributors and aren't reliant on just one or two offensive threats," Wilson said. "That way, depending on how we match up with any specific team, we have someone who can be successful."
