Legion Park War Memorial trees to get needed update

In late 1988 and early 1989 a group of Sidney businessmen began to kick around the idea of a large flagpole in Sidney’s Legion Park, with the added potential of a memorial to those who served in conflicts around the world.

That idea grew from finding a very large pipe to serve as a flag pole to acceptance of a damaged interstate light pole which now serves as the centerpiece of the Sidney War Memorial.

Over time families added to the memorial, which now tells about conflicts the nation’s soldiers have fought in, as well as remembering former soldiers.
