Violet Raddatz Kurz, the youngest daughter of three girls and four boys was born on July 3, 1929 in Sidney, Nebraska to Otto and Emma (Retch) Raddatz.  She was raised in the Lorenzo area and graduated from Sidney High School.

She married Howard Kurz on April 19, 1946.  They had four children: Calvin, Kenneth, Philip, and Yalaunda (Lonnie).   Violet always enjoyed her family. This lady of many talents,   Vi, as all her many friends and relatives called her, was an active partner in the family farming business.  Kurz Combining was started in 1949.  They harvested grain from Texas to South Dakota and farmed in Cheyenne Country.  Vi would run a tractor, combine, grain truck, or whatever else needed doing.  She knew the business end of many a wrench.  She ran for all the parts, and also had the detail of feeding the hired hands.  Vi started her work-life early working as a checker at Safeway in her senior year of high school.

She was a 30 year member of the East Sidney Draw Extension Club.  She enjoyed crafts, baking, sewing, and creating many things for their lovely home in Sidney.  Each year she planted her flower beds at the house with petunias and roses.  Vi also loved to travel, and the couple often travelled to California and made yearly trips to Las Vegas to celebrate Howard's birthday.  They went on a Caribbean cruise with friends and visited Hawaii and many points of interest in the United States and Canada.

Survivors include two sons: Calvin and wife Joanne Kurz of Corona, CA and Phil and wife Patty Kurz of Sidney, NE; one daughter Yalaunda (Lonnie) and husband David Happold of Cheyenne WY; a daughter-in-law Susan Kurz of Sidney, NE; one brother Stanley Raddatz of Lorenzo, NE;  14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters and her son Kenneth.
