Gloribells ring in the season

First United Methodist Church's Gloribells have been a seasonal staple in the Sidney community for many years.

Under the direction Marva Schiessler, the 11 members that make up the Gloribells gathered for their final rehearsal before Sunday's concert.

The Gloribells members play a three octave set with brass bells.

"Each member is delegated with two specific notes, they play either flat or sharp, so being dedicated to the group is important to a successful performance," Schiessler said.

The bell choir practices once a week and preforms one Sunday a month, from September through May each year.

This year marks the Gloribells 20th year, they will present a wide variety of everyone's favorite Christmas songs, and will accompany the chancel choir as they sing "Can you Hear the Christmas Bells?"

The bell choir will also accompany Sean Anders on the violin as he preforms "Infant Holy, Infant Lowly." Valerie Hoekema will be the accompanist for the concert.

The Gloribells will perform a free concert for the public on Sunday at 3:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, located at 2622 11th Ave. in Sidney.
