Violet Jeanette Kurz - Obituary

Violet Jeanette Kurz was born in Sidney, raised in the Lorenzo area and graduated from Sidney High School.

She married Howard Kurz in 1946. They had four children; Calvin, Kenneth, Phillip and Yalaunda. She always enjoyed her family.

Vi, as all her many friends and relatives called her, was an active partner in the family farming business. Kurz Combining was started in 1949. They harvested grain from Texas to South Dakota and farmed in Cheyenne County.

Vi would run a tractor, combine, grain truck or whatever else needed doing. An elevator once remarked, that he would rather see Vi than many other drivers, bring in a load of grain to the elevator during harvest because she knew what she was doing. She knew the business end of many a wrench. Also included, is the necessary detail of seeing that the hired hands were fed and housed.

This many talented lady was the youngest child of Otto and Emma Raddatz family of three girls and four boys.

She started her work life early as a checker at Safeway in her senior year of high school. She was a 30 year member of the East Sidney Draw Extension Club. She enjoyed crafts and sewing and created many things for their lovely home in Sidney.

Vi also loved to travel; as they would travel to California and took yearly trips to Las Vegas to celebrate Howard’s birthday. They went on a Caribbean cruise with friends and visited Hawaii and many points of interest in the United States and Canada.

She was laid to rest on November 21, 2016. She is preceded in death by her son Kenneth.

Vi will be treasured by her children Calvin (Joanne) Kurz from Corona, CA; Phillip (Patty) Kurz from Sidney, NE; Yalanda (David) Happold from Cheyenne, WY; and daughter-in-law Susan Kurz from Sidney, NE.
