Ethel B. Frerichs - Obituary

Ethel B. Frerichs, age 100 departed this world to join her Lord and loved ones in heaven, Tuesday, March 7, 2017 in Bridgeport, NE.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 10th in the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel with Pastor Leon “Bud” Gillespie officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home with cremation to follow. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Dalton Cemetery. Friends may stop at the funeral home on Thursday from 1-7:00 P.M. Ethel Bernice Frerichs, was born the 8th child of Jacob C. and DeVona (Dickinson) Mauer on April 9, 1916 in a two bedroom sod house at the family homestead east of Dalton, NE. The family moved to York, NE when she was three and returned to the homestead when she was nine. Ethel attended school at District 19. When Ethel was fifteen, she met her future husband, Clifford Frerichs and they dated for a couple of years, often attending the local barn dances, going on picnics and fishing. They were married November 9, 1932 at the courthouse in Bridgeport. To this union three sons where born, Daniel, Phillip and Tom. They lived on several farms in Cheyenne County and later purchased a farm near where she was born and Ethel lived there the remainder of her life. She helped Cliff with the farming, plowing, planting, harvesting and grew a big garden and raised chickens.

Ethel was very active in the Assembly of God Church at Dalton for many years and played the accordion and sang duets with her sister LaVaun for church services and later played the keyboard.

Survivors include her sons: Phillip and wife Fran and Tom and wife Sonja both of Gurley; daughter-in-law: Leoma Frerichs of Sidney; (10) grandchildren; (25) great-grandchildren; (31) great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Bonnie Tunin and numerous extended family members and friends.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford in 1990, (1) son: Dan; (1) granddaughter; (3) brothers and (4) sisters.
