Council member Mark Nienhueser steps down after accepting position in Omaha

Mark Nienhueser, Sidney city council member, is resigning from the council.

In a letter to Mayor Joe Arterburn, Nienhueser explains he has “accepted a new job opportunity that will require I relocate.” Adding, “My new opportunity will require I start on April 3.”

“Mark has been a very good member of the council,” Arterburn told the Sun Telegraph. “He served as mayor, and has been a good leader throughout his tenure.

“One of his strengths has always been his knowledge in the construction industry,” Arterburn said. “That’s been very helpful having a member on the council with that kind of knowledge and experience. We deal with a lot of infrastructure and those kind of construction projects. It’s good to have that kind of expertise looking over our shoulder.”

A Sidney native, Nienhueser has served on the city council since December 2010 and served as mayor from 2015 to 2016.

Nienhueser said his new opportunity will take him to Omaha.
