City to grade alleys

On Wednesday, May 12, weather and schedules permitting, the Sidney Street Department will begin grading the alleys, and laying rock as needed. The work will start at 23rd Avenue and move eastward until completed.

The following alleys will be done at the end of the three-week period to allow the Electric Department the necessary time to complete its underground conversions first:

24th Ave. to 23rd Ave. From Jackson St. to Osage St.

10th Ave. to 7th Ave. Between Maple St. and Newton St.

9th Ave. to 7th Ave. Between Linden St. and Maple St.

9th Ave. to 7th Ave. Between King St. and Linden St.

Illinois St. to Maple St. Between 7th Ave. and 6TH Ave.

Jackson St. to Linden St. Between 6th Ave. and 5th Ave.

11th Ave. to Craig Ave. Between Olsen Fr. And Winchester Dr.

Alley to Parkland Dr. Between Canterbury Ln. and Craig Ave.

To prepare, the city says property owners will want to trim trees, hedges, and other plants that may hang into the alley to avoid the possibility of damage.

Property owners should check the alley to be sure Charter Cable has buried the lines if services began over the winter. If not, you must contact Charter Cable to make the necessary arrangements.

The Street Department will typically work between the hours of 7:00am – 3:30pm, as weather and schedules permit. If obstacles are not taken care of before the Street Department arrives, they will not work on that section of the alley rather than risking the possibility of cutting cable, or any other damage; nor will they return at a later date.

For more information please contact the Street Department at (308) 254-6377, or the City Office at (308) 254-5300.
