Volleyball Club triumphs

Sidney's volleyball club launched in January and ended its first season Saturday competing at a grand prix event in Casper, Wyoming.

There, the nine-member team, all 12 years old or younger, was met with success.

"We did very well," Coach Lucia "Lu" Howard said. "We didn't get first, but we got third, and we got third out of 18 in our age group. I am very proud. This being the end of our season, it's kind of heartbreaking that it's over, but I'm very proud of the girls."

Howard started the volleyball club in January with help from assistant coaches Daniella Long and Ashley Riddle.

"When I first moved here, Sidney being only 6,000 people, I was very skeptical where I was going, but I just saw so many opportunities in Sidney," Howard said. "Seeing how quickly it took off, how much interest it already generated, and the great feedback I got from parents, it's something very exciting for me."

The team found its members with official tryouts.
