A Sidney golfer carded a links dream last week, shooting his first hole-in-one at Sidney's Hillside Golf Course.
In making his historical shot, Carlos Flores hit a six iron just right, bouncing his ball in on Hillside's 145-yard par three 14th hole.
"I've been waiting for that for a long time," Flores said.
He started playing golf in the late 1980s, and as luck would have it, the man who talked him into trying the game, long-time Sidney coach Dick Yahn, was part of the foursome. Also playing in the group were Lyle Melchoir and Ray Stark.
"That was really nice to have Dick there to see it," Flores said. "He's the one who got me started."
As if the hole-in-one and having his golfing mentor present weren't enough, another special part of the day will make it certain Flores never forgets the date.
"Today is my grandson Cade's (Lewis) birthday," he said.
