Sidney Legion teams play home openers

Sidney Senior starting pitcher Arik Doty fires a strike against Gering Wednesday at Legion Park. Doty had three strikeouts in his first home appearance.

Sidney's American Legion baseball teams made their first appearance at home Wednesday, hosting Gering in action at Legion Field.

It marked the first time in two years Sidney has fielded both Junior and Senior teams, with inexperienced players coming up from the lower ranks to compete at the Junior level.

The youngsters held their own for three innings, holding Gering to three runs in as many innings.

But the visitors exploded for 13 runs in the fourth, batting around plus some on the way to a 16-1 lead.
