Mary J. Ruhter Obituary

Mary Jo “Jody” Ruhter 86, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died peacefully June 7, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.

Jody was born August 26, 1930 to Leslie and Edith Ross in Sidney, Nebraska. One of six children she was raised on the family farm near Peetz, Colorado.

In 1950, she married Jack E. Ruhter and for the next 67 years they spent their lives raising their family of two children (Steven and Tamera) in Cheyenne. She also enjoyed substitute teaching.

Jody loved the outdoors! She could out hunt and out fish most of the people she met. Fishing with her was always a treat, the bet was “quarter on the first fish.” You can guess whose creel was full of quarters. When not camping, fishing or hunting Jody loved her time gardening, especially her Red Geraniums. After Jack’s retirement, they enjoyed many years at their second home in Saratoga, Wyoming.

Jody is survived her husband, Jack and daughter Tammy Korthals (Tom), two sisters Milly Westphalen and Jane Aikin (Don) and one brother Claude Ross (Elizabeth), sisters- in-law Deanna Ross and Marilyn Ross and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by their son, Steven Ruhter, and brothers Dick Ross, David Ross, and brother-in-law Vernon Westphalen.

Jody will always be remembered by her kind and gentle manner. It was her wish that no services be held at this time. A celebration of her life is planned for a later date this summer.
