Hwy. 30 repairs commence downtown next week

Nebraska’s Department of Transportation has announced that weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin on US-30 on July 10 for repair of concrete panels.

The work will take place on U.S. Hwy. 30 in Sidney’s main downtown business district from 7th Ave. to 13th Ave. Work is expected to take place for 26 days from July 10 through Aug. 4. Workers will be involved in repairs daily from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Business holders, city representatives and the Chamber of Commerce members agreed with the contractor’s plan presented in a meeting held on June 14 in Sidney. In that meeting, representatives of the D.O.T. and Simon Contractors outline a repair plan that would close entire sections of Hwy. 30 during repair work. The original plan was to perform repairs one lane at a time.

After receiving input from the community, it was decided to complete all repairs in a section, so that the impact of repairs would not be as drawn out.

Businesses in the construction zone will remain open to the public.

Simon Contractor, Inc., of Cheyenne, Wyoming, has the $3,615,537 project to repair concrete panels, removal of old asphalt and construction of new asphalt, some pedestrian concrete work, pipe culverts, guardrail and electrical work. The project is anticipated to be completed late September 2017.

The Department of Transportation’s project manager is Sayed Torak of Sidney. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously through construction work zones and along detours.
