Sidney gymnast tops first season with championship

Gracie Wieser of Sidney finished the season with a first-place finish in the uneven bars at the state gymnastics competition for the Colorado Association of Recreational Athletes (C.A.R.A.) in Parker, Colorado.

A first-year gymnast, Wieser earned her spot to compete at the state level by placing third in the uneven bars at the regional competition earlier this month, where she also competed in floor exercise, balance beam and vault. Once at the state competition, Wieser competed in bars against girls from 18 different teams, and came away with the gold medal with a 9.45 score.

Wieser trains at Country Gymnastics in Sterling, Colo. with coaches Rick Kaiser and Val Edinger. Her goal for next season is to perfect her floor routine and compete at the 2018 C.A.R.A. State Meet in multiple events.

Wieser is the daughter of Eric and Jocelyn Wieser.
