Marion Miller

Marion Miller, 89 of Sidney, Nebraska went to be with her Lord Sunday morning, July 30, 2017 at Sidney Regional Medical Center, Extended Care in Sidney.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, August 3, 2017 in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Bradley Heinecke officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Oregon Trail Cemetery near Bridgeport.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials have been established to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bridgeport and Sidney.

Marion Arlene Miller was born to Frank and Charlotte (Bomeke) Miller in Chappell, Nebraska on May 29, 1928. She grew up south of Lodgepole, Nebraska and graduated from Lodgepole High School in 1946. Due to a shortage of teachers in Nebraska she went to summer school in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and started teaching in a small rural school that fall. Most of her early schools she stayed with a family that lived close to the school and would walk to school and teach. The teacher would build a fire to warm the building and all children would bring lunch.

She lived with her parents on a small farm near Bayard, Nebraska and helped take care of two young boys that were offspring of her older sister. The boys were the result of a single mom with five children. She also played a big part in raising the other siblings that stayed with their mother in Laramie, Wyoming.

Marion taught in rural schools in Morrill County, Nebraska for 47 years. She taught the longest at Northport and later at Angora. She taught many young people who remembered her fondly.

Marion worked during the summers for the Oregon Trail Museum in Bridgeport. She always had information for any travelers that needed help with history of a museum piece or current motel references.

Marion was a long time member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Bridgeport where she taught Sunday School for forty some years.

Survivors include her brother Willis (Ellen) Miller of Bassett, NE; nieces Betty (Jock) Faris of Rock River, WY and Linda (John) Coy of Berthoud, CO; and nephews David (Marcia) Secrest of Sidney, NE and Stephen Secrest of Laramie, WY

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Glenus Cole and Harriett Goldsby and one nephew Donald Secrest.
