Sidney cross country competes in Littleton

The Sidney High School cross country team competed in the Liberty Bell Invite in Littleton, CO., Sept. 8.

The Red Raiders placed sixth as a team. Carlos Lucero was the first Raider to cross the finish line, placing sixth with a time of 17:07.

Also placing in the invirte for Sidney were 24th Kaden Vowers 17:40, 25th Collin Brauer 17:48, 53rd Jacob Peckham 18:39, 54th Dante Petersen 18:40, 60th Caedon Snider 18:44, 90th Mitch Porter 19:41.

The Sidney Red Raiders also competed in the Chadron Invite, Chadron High School, and the Sept. 12: middle school only, Bridgeport Invite (middle school only).

In the Chadron Invitational, Sidney placed fifth in the boys 5,000 meter run, following Gering in first, Mitchell in second, Spearfish in third and Chadron in fourth.

First place for the boys is Logan Moravec of Gering with a time of 17:26, followed by Xavier Arellano of Gering with a time of 17:46.

Sidney's first runner to cross the line was Alex Jallen in 14th place with a time of 19:32, and Ben Bashtovoi in 19th place with a time of 19:39. Tristan Ahrendt came in 27th with a time of 20:29.

For the girls, Sidney placed seventh of eight teams. Hill City won the event, followed by Gering, Spearfish, Chadron, Alliance and Red Cloud.

The first place runner for the girls event is Karlee Simmons of Hill City with a time of 20:35, followed by Marion Hohn of Hill City with a time of 20:58 and Lizzy Escalante of Hill City with a time of 21:05.

The first Sidney runner to finish the girls' race was Jaecee Drapal in 21st place with a time of 25:39, followed by Allison Nesbitt in 26th place with a time of 26:10. Varsity will be on the road Thursday, Sept. 14, for Sept. 16: 9 a.m. Alliance Invite, Alliance High School, and the Sept. 21 Ogallala Invite at Ogallala High School Sept. 21.
