Viola M. Sterling - Obituary

Viola Mary Sterling, age 91, of Sidney, NE died on September 19, 2017 at the Hillcrest Cottages, Omaha, NE under hospice care. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service is in charge of Viola's care and funeral arrangements. There will be no public viewing, friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday from 1-5:00 P.M. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 29th.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 30th. Both services will be in the St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Robert Karnish officiating. Interment will follow Mass in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made in Viola's name to St. Patrick's Church, the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Association.

Viola Mary Sterling was born to Herbert and Marie (Colling) Stormberg on October 13, 1925 in Potter, NE. She graduated from Potter High School.

Upon graduation Viola went to work at the Cheyenne County Clerk's office.

She was united in marriage to Lewis R. Sterling, May 5, 1947 in Sidney, NE. To this union six children were born. Viola was a member of St. Patrick's church and Altar Society. She also helped with the rummage house.

She continued working at the Cheyenne County Clerk's office, the Credit Bureau and Cheyenne County Abstract Office.

When Lewis and Viola retired they enjoyed their grandchildren, gardening, and some traveling.

Viola is survived by her children Dianne Hanlon and husband Terry of Mount Vernon, WA., James Sterling and wife Debbie of Omaha, NE, Jeanette Thompson and husband Gerald of Bayard, NE, Denise Goodman and husband Tim of Raleigh, NC, son-in-law Kristopher Kahl of Tulsa, OK, and Kirk Sterling and wife Jane of St. Louis, MO, One brother Donald Stormberg and wife Rosalie of Omaha, NE, one sister Maxine (Stormberg) Wilt of Williston, ND and one sister-in-law, Rudell Stormberg of Lincoln, NE. Viola had eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Kristi Kahl, husband Lewis, brothers Lee Stormberg, Ray Stormberg and wife Donna, Gene Stormberg and sisters Dorothy (Stormberg) Connelley and husband John, and Dolores (Stormberg) Williams and one brother-in-law Donald Wilt.
