Creek Valley sweeps Thursday Tri

The Lady Storm traveled to Big Springs Thursday to face South Platte and Garden County in a triangular play, defeating both teams in two sets.

The Lady Storm defeated the Bayard Tigers 25-17 and 25-21, and the South Platte’s Blue Knights 25-14 and 25-16. Against Garden County, the Lady Storm were led by Madison McFee and Payje Misegadis with four kills each, and Caitlyn Mueller with two kills.

Jordyn Koenen, Samantha Schmid, and Jersie Misegadis each had one ace serve. Jordyn Koenen and Jersie Misegadis blocked together and earned each other a block assist. Samantha Schmid and Payje Misegadis shared a block together earning each of them a block assist. Samantha Schmid led the setters with seven assists. Kayla Collins led the team with 10 playable digs.

The Lady Storm faced South Platte, the home team, for the second game of the triangular. Payje Misegadis led the team with six kills. Chloe Mitlehner finished the game with four killls, and Madison McFee and Jordyn Koenen finished close behind with three kills each. Samantha Schmid led the team with two ace serves and nine set assists. Jersie Misegadis had three set assists, close behind her was MacKenzie Backus with two set assists and Payje Misegadis with one set assist.

“As a team, we passed (serve receive and digs) at 80 percent accuracy,” said coach Heather Gonzalez.

South Platte entered the match with an 8-11 season record while Creek Valley arrived with an 18-5 season record. Creek Valley is 3-2 in League play, 11-3 non-league. Garden County entered the match with a 5-17 season record, 3-9 in District, 1-6 at home and 2-7 on the road. Creek Valley has met Garden County on the court twice earlier this season. On Sept. 9, Creek Valley defeated Garden County 25-17 and 25-18, and on Sept. 21 Creek Valley went three sets to claim the victory: 25-24, 25-14 and 25-19. Creek Valley also played South Platte earlier this season. The Lady Storm defeated South Platte in two sets on Sept. 9, 25-21 and 25-21.

The Creek Valley Storm defeated the Bayard Tigers and lost to the Mitchell Tigers, both in two sets Thursday.

Creek Valley defeated Bayard 25-17 and 25-21, and fell to Mitchell 25-9, 25-22. Team leaders so far this season for the Lady Storm include Payge Misegadis with 355 digs, 143 kills, 127 receptions and 38 blocks. Samantha Schmid has 244 assists and Chloe Mitlehner has 43 serve aces.

As a team, Mitchell has 573 kills this season, 130 total blocks, 143 serving aces, 938 digs, 510 assists and 767 receptions. Creek Valley has 413 kills, 77 total blocks, 163 serve aces, 1606 digs, 359 assists and 800 receptions.

Creek Valley coach Heather Gonzalez said the match against Mitchell started slow, struggling to get started and develop a rhythm.

“By the second set with Mitchell, we started getting into the groove of the game,” she said.

However, in the second set, the Lady Storm had many unforced errors which resulted in the 22-25 loss.

The Lady Storm returned to familiar territory when they entered the court against Bayard, and walked out with a win to prove it.

“We played consistent and smart. We moved as a team and played together, which ultimately won us the match,” Gonzalez said.

Creek Valley also Potter-Dix 2-0 and lost to Hyannis 2-0 in the Creek Valley Tri Thursday.
