Veterans Day Program coming next week

Sidney Regional Medical Center is hosting a Veterans Day Program at Sidney Middle School on Nov. 10.

The yearly event honors the community's veterans, Randi Norton, with SRMC marketing department, said.

"It's an opportunity for all the veterans in the community, as well as other community members, to pay tribute to the sacrifice and service our veterans made," Norton said.

Col. Lloyd Buzzell, Air Force Global Strike Command vice commander at Francis E. Warren AFB, will be the event's keynote speaker.

There will also be remarks from Jason Petic, SRMC CEO; Chris Arent, SHS principal, and Mayor Joe Arterburn. Also joining the event are the SHS choir and the VAV/VFW joint color guard.

Uniforms, courtesy of Col. Larry Nelson, will be on display.

The community's veterans will be recognized with the event.

"Veterans will be asked to be stand to recognized at one point during the ceremony," Norton said.

Everyone is encouraged to attend the event," Norton said.

"We would encourage anybody in the community to attend, whether you are a veteran or not," she said. "It's a great way to thank those who did serve. A lot of veterans do stick around and like to visit with people afterwards.

She added, "It's not just for vets, but for everyone in the community.

SRMC appreciates the community's veterans, Norton said.

"We have quite a few staff members who are veterans. A lot of our residents in extended care and Sloan Estates are veterans. A lot of our patients are veterans," she said. "We have a large veteran population here in Sidney and this organization takes pride in serving those veterans. This is one thing we can do to give back to them, to recognize them and so they can be thanked."

It is an honor to have Col. Larry Buzzell as the event's keynote speaker, Norton said.

"It's pretty fantastic to get someone that high level who is a vice commander of a numbered air force as well as a command," she said. "He's pretty high-up on the chain over at Warren, so it's pretty nice that we got him."

The 2017 Veteran's Day program will be held at Sidney Middle School Auditorium at 2 p.m.
