Herbert Fecht - Obituary

Herbert Fecht, 93 of Dalton, Nebraska died of natural causes on Monday morning, November 20, 2017 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, November 27, 2017 in the United Church of the Plains, Trinity site in Dalton with Pastor Wayne Pouppirt officiating. A luncheon will follow immediately in the church basement. A private family inurnment will be in the Dalton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the United Church of the Plains Women and the Dalton Volunteer Fire Department.

Herb was born on July 22nd 1924 in Dalton NE on the farm that his Grandparents homesteaded and lived his entire 93 years. Herb graduated from Dalton High School in 1941 and farmed with his father until his father's retirement in1951. In August of 1951 Herb married Darlene Winkelman of Dalton at the Trinity Lutheran Church and they continued the farming operation until their retirement in 2001.

Herb enjoyed many activities including playing on the Dalton Baseball Town Team, as an artist who enjoyed woodworking, woodcarving and drawing. He was an avid outdoorsman, as a fisherman and hunter stemming back to his youth as a Duck Lore Lodge guide and as the Head Golf Pro of the 9 hole "Fecht Country Club" golf course.

He was member and councilman at Trinity Lutheran/United Church of the Plains and was part owner of the Dalton State Bank, and served on the Dalton Cooperative Association board for many years.

Herb is survived by his wife Darlene (Winkelman) Fecht of Dalton NE, son John and wife Pam (Steffes) Fecht of Lincoln NE, two daughter Susan and husband Jim Gleason of Lincoln NE and Nancy and husband Don Polodna of Norfolk NE, a brother Arthur and wife Sandy Fecht of Sussex, WI and 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his Daughter Karen Yvonne, Parents Albert and Anna Fecht siblings John, Don and Dorothy Mathis
