Creek Valley Splits Weekend Contests

Creek Valley's boys split contests over the weekend, man handling Potter-Dix Friday, then losing to Bayard Saturday.

The Storm whirled around Potter-Dix, using its experience and a tough defense to log a 64-23 wire-to-wire win. The following evening, the Storm came up short on scoring in the first and fourth quarters, falling to Bayard 58-42.

"We missed too many layups and point-blank shots," Creek Valley Coach Roger Behrends said of the Bayard game. "We just need to have some focus, and we weren't focused when we missed all those shots."

Creek Valley opened up the weekend flexing its muscle against the inexperience Coyotes, using a trap defense that Behrends said he hopes will continue to be the team's bread and butter.

"We've scored a lot of points with it," Behrends said. "We haven't been real consistent with our offense, and we'll have to see where that goes."

For Potter-Dix, the weekend was a long drawn out one. Using underclassmen, including a freshman point guard, the Coyotes never gave up in their quest, but fell short against two of the area's power teams.
