Red Raiders Defeat Chase County 72-48

The Sidney Red Raiders defeated the visiting Chase County Longhorns 72-48 Friday, improving their record to 3-1.

The Red Raiders outpaced the visiting Longhorns for most of the game. By the halftime, the Red Raiders were leading by a 2:1 margin, 48-24. Sidney earned 25 points in the first quarter and 23 in the second. Scoring slowed some in the second half with Sidney only scoring 11 in the third and 13 in the fourth.

Sidney Coach Austin Lewis said he has six seniors, all whom display good character this year.

Sidney senior Mitch Porter led the team offensively, earning 31 points in the game with 10 field goals, three three-pointers and two for two from the free-throw line.

Following Porter is junior Arik Doty with 14 points. Doty had one two-point field goal, three three-pointers and and three for three from the free-throw line. Senior Jake Burke earned 13 points with five field goals and one three-pointer.

Also scoring for Sidney, Connor Dormann had eight, and Alex Jallen, Skylar Heineman and Cole Westfall had two points each.

The Red Raiders host Fort Morgan High School Friday and Alliance High School Saturday. Lewis said he is expecting a tough game with Fort Morgan and with Alliance. According to Lewis, Fort Morgan has a player known for his height and Alliance has young players who play hard under the basket.

"They're a scrappy bunch," he said.
