County Seeking Bids For Building Remodel

Cheyenne County has a building needing some work and the commissioners are seeking bids for the work.

The Cheyenne County Commissioners announced Tuesday they are advertising for bids to remodel the building at 921 Hickory St. in Sidney. The building is presently unoccupied and current county offices for the location have not been determined. The county is planning a pre-bid conference with the project coordinator, scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, in the commissioners meeting room. The deadline for submitting bids is Feb. 5.

The commissioners said Tuesday the building needs to be made suitable for office space. The work is to be completed by May 15.

In other business Jan. 2, the commissioners convened as the Board of Equalization to review and approve tax list corrections. Returning as the board of commissioners, they then approved a contract with Standard Appraisal for county appraisal services.

The commissioners also approved, with the approval of the Cheyenne County Fairboard, Troy Kurz as a new member and Gerald Frerichs reappointed to the board, while Nikki Rochlitz and Kendall Gonzales resigned from the board. Chris Johnson was also approved to remain as a member of the Extension board, and Judy Harris on the Visitors Committee. The board also reappointed three members - Pat Dorwart, Bill Sydow and Walter Narjes - to the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The commissioners also approved a Special Designated Liquor License for Pheasants Forever's annual banquet. The event is scheduled for March 2.

Mike Fleming addressed the board of commissioners, asking when the new storm siren will be tested in Lorenzo. Region 21 Emergency Manager Ron Leal said ideally at least once a month. However, the community can decide when to test the storm alarm.

Additionally, the commissioners confirmed commissioner board appointments to remain as they were in 2017. Randal Miller is on the Water Quality Committee with Philip Sanders as alternate. Darrell Johnson will continue representing Cheyenne County on the Region 21 Emergency Management committee with Sanders as the alternate. Sanders will represent the county on the Commission on Aging with Miller as the alternate. Darrell Johnson will represent the county on the Mental Health committee with Miller as the alternate. Johnson will also represent the county on the Region I Office of Human Development with Miller as the alternate. Sanders will represent the county on the Panhandle Area Dev. District with Miller as the alternate. Miller will serve on the Panhandle Community Services board with Johnson as the alternate. Johnson will serve on the Panhandle Disability Service Inc., board with Miller as the alternate. Sanders is the ex-officio member of the Visitor Committee. Johnson will serve as a member of the Waste Management - Landfill and E911 boards with Miller as the alternate to both. Sanders is the commission representative for the Panhandle Resource Conservation and Development with Miller as the alternate, and Miller is the county representative of the Panhandle Public Health District Board with Sanders as the alternate.
