SHS Students Receive Performance Awards

Six students were recognized by the Sidney School Board this week for achievement in and out of the classroom.

Top students are recognized each month, receiving a variety of certificates as a reward.

The Monthly Performance Award acknowledges other criteria as well as achievement. The criteria are:

1. Superior academic performance, (or), dramatic improvement of classroom work, G.P.A. or attitude toward learning.

2. Exceptional work effort toward a particular class project.

3. Outstanding Contribution to the class.

4. Leadership exhibited in the class/school.

5. Citizenship emphasized and modeled.

6. Service to school.

Recognized for the December Performance Awards, with nomination comments, were:

Seventh Grade – Reese Riddle

Reese Riddle is a great student.  She is a hard working respectful person who always has a smile on her face.  When asked to do a project or an assignment she always tries to do her best.  Her questions are always well thought out and to the point.  She works very well with minimum supervision, but is always willing to aid others.  She understands there is a time to work and a time to have a little fun.  Reese is the daughter of Mike and Ashley Riddle.

Eighth Grade – Mitch Deer

Mitchell Deer has been chosen as Sidney Middle School’s Eighth grade Student of the Month for December.  Mitchell has consistently displayed the qualities that we find desirable of a student representing Sidney Middle School. He strives to do his best at everything he takes on and never lets obstacles stop him from finding success.   He approaches every day and every task with a positive attitude.  Mitchell, without a doubt, is a hardworking, dedicated student. In our experience with Mitchell, he has been respectful to teachers and other students.  Mitchell works well with every student in every situation.  His positive attitude, excellent work ethic, and patience with others make him an excellent choice for student of the month.  Mitch is the son of John and Jolene Deer.

Ninth Grade – Marissa Borchard

Marissa was nominated because of academic performance, classroom effort, and dramatic improvement. Marissa always gives 100 percent. She has gone from being very shy to advocating well for herself. She is involved in many things at SHS and tries hard at everything she does.

Some of the activities she is involved in include track, cross country, soccer, dance, art club, Skills USA, and swim team. In her spare time she enjoys drawing, baking, traveling, riding horses, and volunteering at Creek Side Animal Hospital. She plans on attending college at UC Davis in California to become a veterinarian. Marissa is the daughter of Tony & Amanda Borchard

10th Grade – Haley Kennedy

Academic Performance, Classroom Effort/Attitude, Leadership/Service/Citizenship were the reasons Haley was nominated. She always shows up ready to work and willing to participate in class. She is a member of Art Club, and part of the Sidney Just for Kix team. She enjoys school because the teachers are so kind which creates a great learning environment. and she enjoys learning new things every day. She plans on graduating from high school and then attending college to study psychiatry. Haley is the daughter of Bobbie Coon.

11th Grade: - Meaghan Ross

Meaghan was nominated because of Classroom Effort & Leadership/Service/Citizenship.

She has been nominated because of her attitude and her leadership to the freshmen. Every day she comes to class she is always very courteous to the freshmen and has conversations with them when they try to talk to her, as well as give them advice for how to study for finals. She is a member of Science Club, S Club, National Honor Society, a Class officer, Skills USA. She also participates in basketball, and track. Her future plans are to attend college and hope to continue to play basketball at the collegiate level. Meaghan is the daughter of Brandon & Melissa Ross.

12th Grade: - Abbey Mortensen

Abbey was selected as student of month because of her academic performance, leadership/service/citizenship. She excels in the classroom and is very considerate, friendly, and always willing to help others. She is organized, self-motivated, and a leader. She was a leader in putting together the high school float for the community Christmas parade, and was also a leader in putting together the Acts of Kindness program at the high school. Abbey is also part of the LDS Youth Group. Outside of school is enjoys playing the violin and piano, and reading & writing. She works part-time also. She plans on attending college for Psychology and/or English. She is considering becoming a teacher. Abbey is the daughter of Brett & Hayley Mortensen.
