Peetz's boys basketball team continued its undefeated season by easily dispatching the Prairie Mustangs Friday night and the Pawnee Coyotes Saturday in conference action. The Bulldogs improved their record to 13-0 (7-0 in league) continuing to dominate the competition as they head towards tournament play.
On Friday the Bulldogs visited New Raymer, CO to take on the Prairie Mustangs (5-10, 4-3 in league) in a conference matchup. The Bulldogs wasted no time building up a 29-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Peetz senior Logan Sircy carved up the Prairie defenders with a combination of outside shooting and drives to the basket as the Bulldogs pulled away to a 39-14 halftime lead. The second half continued with Peetz outscoring the Mustangs 17-8 in the third quarter, and then coasted with its bench players to end the game with a final score of 62-24.
Saturday continued the Peetz winning streak as the Bulldogs travelled to Grover, CO to face the Pawnee Coyotes (2-11, 1-6 in league). Another fast start for the Bulldogs ended the first quarter with Peetz up 24-17, and in the second the visitors poured it on, outscoring Pawnee 31-9 to end the half up 55-26. The Bulldogs outscored the Coyotes 25-20 in the final two periods to end the game with a 80-46 victory. Peetz senior Tre Fehringer led the scoring for the Bulldogs with 19 points, and seniors Logan Sircy, Gabe Naegele, and Alex Curlee all scored in double-digits for Peetz.
On the girls side, the search for the Lady Bulldogs (0-13, 0-7 in league) first win of the season continues. On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs struggled against the Prairie Mustangs, having difficulty even advancing the ball past half court versus the Prairie defense. The Lady Bulldogs had trouble in all aspects of the game, as they committed turnovers, tried to force passes, and were unable to get any clean shots off from the field. The Lady Bulldogs were shut out in the first period, and at end of the half they were trailing 30-1, the lone point coming from a successful free throw attempt.
The troubles continued in the second half, with Peetz only scoring three points in the third period against Prairie's nine. The final quarter saw the Lady Bulldogs shut out again, scoring no points against eight for the home team. The final score was a lopsided 47-4 tally. The Lady Bulldogs will again try for their first win on Friday, as both the boys and girls basketball teams are home against the visiting Caliche Buffaloes.
