Public Meetings Set For Look At Ground Water

Public Meetings to discuss ground water are being hosted by the South Platte Natural Resources District (SPNRD). Topics to be covered during these meetings will include water levels, water usage, irrigation water allocations; water resources management strategies and upcoming Integrated Management Plan (IMP) revisions. Feedback provided by attendees will assist the SPNRD Board of Directors in planning for water management and water conservation for the District, the main goal being protection of water users within the District.

The SPNRD is made up of three Nebraska counties; Deuel County, Cheyenne County and Kimball County. While water allocations directly affect District irrigators, ground water management affects all people with interests in the District. All persons with ties to the District are invited to attend the meetings. Water management affects both residential homes and professional businesses; public concerns, ideas, and input during the planning stage of the rules and regulations set by the Board of Directors (BOD) is important.

The Kimball County meeting will be held on Feb. 22 at the Kimball Event Center in Kimball from 10 a.m. to noon. The Deuel County meeting will be held on Feb. 27 at the Chappell Fire Hall in Chappell Nebraska from 10 a.m. through noon. The Cheyenne County meeting will be held March 1 at the Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) in Sidney from 10 a.m. to noon.

Feedback from meeting attendees will help assist the SPNRD Board of Directors with setting appropriate allocations for the coming allocation period.

More information on allocations and ground water management can be found online at http://www.spnrd.org/Html/rules_regulations.html. You can also call the SPNRD at 308-254-2377 or visit at 551 Parkland Dr, Sidney.
