Temps Drop Drastically In Just Over Two Days

With a high temperature of 30 degrees in Sidney Wednesday, it seemed almost balmy after a week which began with a huge temperature swing.

The wild week began with unseasonably warm weather Sunday, which saw a few residents out in shirt sleeves enjoying a 67-degree afternoon. That changed relatively quickly, however, as National Weather Service records show that just 24 hours later the temperature had dropped to nine degrees. By midnight Monday, light snow was falling through -1 degree air. By the time the snow ended, Sidney had received about two inches of the white stuff.

But that wasn’t the end of Mother Natures temperature dipsy-doodle. Those who ventured out late Tuesday afternoon and into evening saw another big dip, with the temperature going from 11 degrees at 4 p.m. to -11 just three hours later.

That 22-degree swing came quickly, but topped off a 78 degree change in 53 hours.

With any luck the area won’t see such severe swings again soon. The current forecast is for seasonable temperatures, with highs in the 30’s to near 40 by Sunday, and lows in the teens. The area could also see light covering of white with a chance of snow expected tonight and into tomorrow.
